Sustainability Innovation Delivers for Crane
Crane Currency has implemented a pioneering project that captures water directly from the air, turning a byproduct of the air conditioning system into a valuable resource for banknote printing.
All print works have air conditioning in order to maintain a stable and consistent temperature and relative humidity of the during printing. Meanwhile, fresh water is a scarce resource in Malta and reverse osmosis plants are the main source of potable water on the island. Consequently the business has worked to recover condensate from its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and use it to feed the wiping solution top-up system (WTG), which is an integral part of the intaglio printing process.
The Crane system collects condensate water from five air handling units which is then filtered and stored in buffer tanks before being pumped into the WTG wiping solution system.
