As described on the previous page, the paper outlines new methodologies to measure the monetary value of cash as a payment instrument, expressing its value as a percentage of GDP, and how to express the psychological perception of cash in an index. This is ground-breaking work since neither has been done before.

The methodologies have been piloted in Germany and Poland, with the support of the central banks, and a further pilot in South Africa will conclude shortly.
