A Perfect 10: CCL Secure Wigton Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation and Global Supply

In 2016 a seismic shift occurred in England, with the introduction of the £5 polymer banknote, the first in a planned new full series. Not only was it the first polymer note in the nation, it also marked the establishment of a new dedicated polymer substrate manufacturing plant at Wigton, resulting in CCL Secure's expertise in polymer substrate and security features production and Innovia Films's specialised bubble production process coming together at one location.

This 10-year milestone coincides with the Bank of England's 10-year anniversary of using polymer banknotes. Over those 10 years, CCL Secure has been a key substrate supplier supporting the Bank's transition to, and ongoing use of, polymer banknotes across the full polymer series, and evolved the Wigton facility in line with its initial mandate: to create a dedicated, world-class manufacturing facility based upon innovation, partnership and sustainable manufacturing.
