São Tomé and Príncipe Celebrates with Remarkable New Note

The Central Bank of São Tomé and Príncipe has officially issued a 50 dobra banknote commemorating 50 years of independence (1975–2025) for the small island republic in the Gulf of Guinea.

The note marks a return to international banknote production for its printer, Royal Joh Enschedé, after several years away from that market. It is printed on Q&T High-Tec's PolySecure polymer substrate: while Q&T has won other international business, this is the first one to be issued outside its native Vietnam.

The front of the green-and-gold note features a Peregrine falcon and an African grey parrot against a background of a waterfall and forest foliage, along with national hero Rei Amador, the country's coat of arms, and an inscription marking the 50th anniversary of independence: '50° Aniversário da Independência Nacional 1975–2025, Decreto n.º 09/2025'.
