InfiniPerf®: New Generation Micro-Perforation Offers Infinite Design Opportunities

Presenting the technology at Intergraf's Currency+Identity conference in Copenhagen, Dr Felix Abt – Orell Füssli Security Printing's Innovation Director – outlined how it addresses the main challenges for Level 1 security features – namely circulation performance (particularly in harsh conditions), counterfeit resistance, sustainability, the need for seamless integration in existing or new banknote designs, and a public authentication process that has to be easy, even on very heavily used banknotes.

The principle is simple: laser-created micro-perforations are largely invisible under normal viewing conditions but reveal an image when the banknote is held against a light source. According to Orell Füssli, the feature can be applied to cotton paper, DuraSafe, hybrid and polymer substrates, allowing central banks to enhance existing series without changing their artwork.
