Bank of Canada Unveils Design for New $20 Banknote

The Bank of Canada has unveiled its new vertical $20 polymer banknote at a special ceremony attended by the Governor General of Canada, the Secretary of State for Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions, and the Banks’s Governor, Tiff Macklem.

The note is the first to feature a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III (replacing that of Queen Elizbeth II), and the first time in more than 70 years that a new monarch has appeared on the $20, which is the most frequently used denomination of all Canada’s banknotes.

The predominantly green note is in a vertical orientation on both the front and the back, in keeping with the $10, which features the civil rights activist Viola Desmond and was introduced in 2018.
